Waitress Earns Full Scholarship To Culinary Institute In National Competition

HAGERSTOWN, MD - A local teen has won a free ride to college for being the best in the country at waiting tables.

Erica Conrad is a server at Cafe Del Sol in

Hagerstown.

She recently competed in the Skills USA national competition and took first place.

She had to memorize a menu, set a formal dining table, and wait on judges as she would regular customers.

Conrad said she was relaxed during the competition because they were the same things she has to do every day.

“I went in and I just sat down, and it felt natural,” she told NBC25.  “It was normal, it was so comfortable that I didn’t need to feel scared or nervous or any of those crazy feelings.”

Her first place honor earned her a full scholarship to the New England Culinary Institute in

Vermont, and she hopes to open a restaurant one day.
