Oregon Tech Announces Athletic Scholarship Recipients

KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (June 30, 2008)—Oregon Tech announced the recipients of their annual scholarship awards for the Mike Snider Memorial, David L. Terhune and the Howard and Ginger Morris Scholarships for the upcoming 2008-09 academic year.

Darrick Waugh was awarded the Mike Snider Memorial Scholarship for the 2008-09 season.  The scholarship was named for the former outstanding student-athlete at Oregon Tech who was killed in an industrial accident.

Waugh, a former standout at Henley High School in Klamath Falls, was a three-time Oregon state qualifier in both Track & Field and Cross Country, where he won the individual state title in Cross Country for the Hornets in 2007.

Waugh is an incoming transfer from Chico State and will participate in both Cross Country and Track & Field for OIT.

Jackie Polette was awarded the David L. Terhune Scholarship for the 2008-09 year.  This scholarship is named in honor of the long-time booster of Oregon Tech athletics.

Polette, a 5’6” setter at Capital High School in Helena, was a three-time all-conference volleyball selection and was also selected to the 1st team all-state squad as a setter in 2006 and 2007.  Polette set several top-10 records at CHS, including the career record for aces with 126, assists in a career with 2,041, digs in a career with 532 and is 5th on the career blocks list with 71.

Mike Nieraeth was awarded the Howard and Ginger Morris Scholarship for the upcoming 2008-09 season.  The scholarship is named for the long-time boosters and former Athletics Director, head football, baseball and wrestling coach at OIT.

Nieraeth started in 31 games for the Owls, helping lead Tech to the 2008 NAIA II national championship, their second basketball title in school history.  The junior from Bonanza, OR. averaged 6.1 points and 2.0 rebounds in 18 minutes/game for Tech last season.
