NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP: Belleville West grad is awarded scholarship

A Belleville West High School graduate has won a corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship, for his academic accomplishments.

Daniel R. McCullough, of Belleville, will receive the scholarship with the financial support of the Omron Corp. He plans to study electrical engineering.

Lists of other regional winners were printed in the Post-Dispatch earlier this year, but at the time Daniel’s award had yet to be announced.

Approximately 8,200 National Merit Scholarships, worth over $36 million, have been offered to high school seniors in 2008 for college undergraduate study. About 1,100 of the awards, are financed by about 200 companies, foundations, and other business organizations.

Each finalist presented an outstanding academic record; was endorsed and by the school principal; earned high SAT scores and provided an essay describing activities, interests, and goals.
